About Me
Hi, this is me and my amazing niece Eily. She brings me joy like no other person can!
I love capturing moments in life that reflect pure emotion. Some people grew up trying to catch lightning bugs in little jars where they would watch them glow. I grew up trying to capture light, joy, and whimsy.
One of the first bits of information a potential client seems to want to know about a photographer is “Did you go to school for photography?” This is a logical question, and one that can usually be answered with one word. While formal training as a photographer is by no means necessary to become a talented artist, I am always happy to put my clients at ease with a “yes.” I completed my B.F.A. at the Rochester Institute of Technology where I studied a range of photography styles, formal lighting, and non-traditional printing methods. After graduating I took a break from photography to work in the human services field, where I have gained invaluable experiences. But I could not stay away for too long. I would love to say it was something deep inside of me that originally drew me back. In all honesty, I believe it was the birth of my niece, Eily, that really stirred my passion. I love looking through the thousands (not kidding, I really do have thousands of photographs of this little girl) of photographs of her growing up. She helped me rediscover what I love about photography–what I have always loved.
Now, I have found I love photographing authentic moments of real people’s lives, with as much natural light as possible!
I want to get to know the people I am photographing so I can be sure I am capturing them as true to life as possible.
One of my favorite things to do is to photograph people living their everyday moments. I have found these make startlingly better photographs than any posed images. This is especially true for children. They are naturally busy little people, and their true light doesn’t really shine until you catch them being “a kid”. This is why I love photographing people outside of a studio, in their own home or at their favorite places. It helps them feel at ease and allows their true character to translate to the photographs.
